MEETING 1

Consultation with Designer(s)

Analysis Phase – Getting to know you and your project!

After an initial phone call, we will schedule consultation for your client engagement meeting, which will take place at the project location. At this meeting we will:

  • Evaluate the space by taking pictures & measurements
  • Discuss looks, styles, concepts, colors, and goal of the project
  • Decide on existing pieces to be considered for reuse 
  • Determine the estimated budget 


*Your homework:  After the phone call and before Meeting 1 – you will email us inspiration photos of what you like (style, colors, designs, etc.) from websites like Pinterest or Google.  This helps us visualize what is in your head and what you like.


Next…..

We will:

  • Create 1-2 mood boards (design boards with colors, styles, design ideas)
  • Create design drawings if needed
  • Get rough budgetary estimates from contractors, tradespeople, and/or material suppliers, if needed (based on pictures of space), After the final design is agreed on contractors will come to the project location to provide you a final bid


*Note: A minimum payment of $300 is required before we start the above tasks and schedule meeting 2.  After meeting 1, we will determine the exact amount due based on the size and scope of the project. (the $300 payment does not go towards the overall design proposal)

MEETING 2

Presentation of Design Ideas

Design Phase

At this meeting:

  • We will present design ideas and concepts by viewing mood boards and/or design drawings 
  • We will discuss what you like and dislike, and discuss any changes to the overall design 
  • We will review rough budgetary estimates from contractors, tradespeople, and/or material suppliers
  • The client decides to hire Black Cedar Interior Design and proceed with the project
  • The client decides if Black Cedar or client will manage the project 
  • The client will sign the letter of agreement/contract


Next…..before the final design meeting, we will: 

  • Finalize the design concept with the client, which will be billed hourly until design concept is agreed on and signed off by client
  • Meet at the project location with the contractor, tradespeople, and/or material suppliers (if needed) they can provide the client detailed bids

*Note: Payment of 50% of design proposal is due before meeting 3

MEETING 3

Final Design & Implementation

At this meeting:

  • The client hires the contractor and/or tradespeople
  • We and the client will communicate the client's desired completion time frame with contractors and tradespeople
  • We will provide sample/material boards (cabinetry, paint, flooring, furnishings, etc.), - which can be presented digitally and physically 
  • We will finalize finish selections and alternatives, if necessary
  • We will discuss purchasing/ordering– with the client - e.g., which items will be ordered by Black Cedar, contractor/tradespeople and client.  *Black Cedar Interior Design requires advanced in-full payment of items prior to purchasing.  Detailed invoice will be emailed to client for approval and signature

Project Management

(if Black Cedar Interior Design is hired for this service), we will:

  • Make on-site visits as needed to answer design questions 
  • Communicate with contractors, tradespeople, and the client regarding orders, clients desired timelines, installations etc. 
  • Upon project completion, place furniture, style and accessorize the space


*Black Cedar Interior Design acts as a liaison between the client and contractors and/or tradespeople.  Black Cedar Interior Design is not responsible for the actions or omissions of contractors or tradespeople (see the Interior Design Agreement for additional details)
